President of the National Council of the YMCAs of Sri Lanka Mr. Aruna Shantha Nonis and Executive Secretary Mr. Charith de Silva visited the YMCAs in North from 3rd to 6th March 2010. They met the leaders of all Northern YMCAs and held strategic discussions to help enhance future performances of the YMCAs. |

The above camp was conducted by the National Christian Council from 25th to 27th of February 2010 at the YMCA International Centre, Katunayake. 25 Camp Leaders, including 4 members of the NCY Camp Sub-Committee participated in this Training Programme. |

Polish Government Representative Visits Sri Lanka |

Mr. Janues Impact, the Polish Government Representative who is stationed in New Delhi was in Sri Lanka from 20th to 23rd of January 2010 to monitor the progress of the Polish funded Water & Sanitation Project. Sri Lanka YMCA implemented the project at Mandur and Valaichenai in partnership with the area YMCAs. Under this project 120 latrines and 16 wells were completed. |

On 20th of January 2010 they restarted the youth activities in Nugegoda YMCA. 25 Youths joined for the 1st programme. Volunteers from Nugegoda, Dehiwela and Galle YMCAs helped to organize this days programme. |

NCY and Dehiwela YMCA signed a MOU titled “Dehiwela YMCA Development Plan’’ on the 27th of February 2010 to strengthen the YMCA membership involvements in order to attract more members to the Dehiwela YMCA. |

To understand the present context of YMCA and to initiate new methodologies & programmes to Strengthen the Movement at different levels, 3 workshops were conducted regionally for North YMCAs on 6th February, for East YMCAs on 17th April and for South YMCAs on 01st May 2010. Altogether 140 leaders/youth volunteers/staff participated in these training programmes. |

Y-Care International –UK/Ireland initiated a programme to train Sri Lanka YMCA leaders and programme managers on Disaster Preparedness Planning, under which 2 workshops were conducted, facilitated by Y-Care resource personnel. First workshop was held from 11th to 15th of February at YMCA International centre, Katunayake, and the other at Batticaloa from 16th to 18th February. More than 60 persons from South, West, East & Central Region YMCAs participated. |

Hike to Adams Peak |

A three days hike to Adams Peak from Ratnapura through 35 km jungle trek was conducted by the Camping Sub-committee of the NCY. This was the first time such a long distant hike ever organized. The hike was designed to develop the Camping skills & Hiking experience of participants. 18 camp leaders took part in this journey. |

Tree Planting Campaign at Moratuwa |

Moratuwa YMCA conducted a Tree Planting Campaign on 12th March 2010 by planting 30 shady trees along the road leading to the Mortuwa Railway Station. Mayor of Moratuwa Mr. Samanlal Fernando participated at the campaign and appreciated the community development services of Moratuwa YMCA. This campaign was funded and supported by the Korean YMCA volunteer Project. |
